IATA special provision for BF3 neutron detectors

IATA 190 and DOT SP 238 went into effect on January 1st, 2013 and since then thousands of BF3 neutron detectors have been shipped around the world without the former complications of DOT special permits and competent authority approvals.  Detectors with 1 gram or less of gas in packages of up to 52 grams per package are considered “not restricted” and do not require a shippers declaration or hazardous materials charges.  They are also allowed on any mode of transportation.
